Port Talbot,South Wales - Prolific back behind bars for spate of break-ins

Stephen Tarling was sentenced to five years for a string of burglaries in Port Talbot
A PROLIFIC offender who began a burglary spree just weeks after being released from prison for previous burglaries is back behind bars.
Stephen Tarling targeted six houses around Port Talbot, stealing everything from a passport to a TV digibox, wallets, cameras and mobile phones.
He was caught after detectives identified him from CCTV footage taken at one of the properties — and the daps he was wearing when he was arrested matched shoe prints found at the scene of another break in.

Tarling, of Lower West End, Taibach, had previously pleaded guilty when he appeared in the dock of Swansea Crown Court for sentencing.
The court heard Tarling had been released on licence in August last year half way through a six year sentence for aggravated burglary but by September was back to his own ways, breaking into a house in Ffrwddwyllt Street and stealing two handbags.
There was then a gap in his offending until November when he broke into a house in Chapel Terrace, forcing patio doors to gain entry — and causing around £800-worth of damage in the process — and stealing mobile phones and computer games.
Tarling committed four further offences during December, at Rice Street, Margam Road, Cambrian Place and Ffrwddwyllt Cottages — the last three all on the same night.
From these properties he took a range of items including mobile phones, cash, an Apple Mac computer, a watch, banks cards and a passport.
He was found in possession of many of the items when police found him sitting on the bed in his house.
Richard Adamiec, for Tarling, said his client had been hoping for support from probation following his release from prison last summer but instead had been "left to his own devices".
He added that Tarling had "substantial drug issues".
Judge Paul Thomas QC told the defendant burglary was an offence that had a serious impact on its victims, not just in terms of any items taken but in the upset and anxiety is caused. He sentenced Tarling to five years in prison.
