POLICE in Cimla have stepped up patrols following a spate of burglaries in the area.
Before Christmas, South Wales Police revealed there had been more than 25 burglaries in the county in just one month, but more break-ins have taken place in the new year — many of these in Cimla.
Some of the streets hit by burglars include Treballen Avenue, Woodview and the Meadows.
Other areas in Neath Port Talbot, which have seen a rise in the number of crimes of this type in recent months, are Baglan, Sandfields and Port Talbot.

Cimla councillor John Warman said: "There have been quite a number of burglaries in the Cimla, which has caused some concern in the community."
Mr Warman said he was concerned that the same person or gang of people were targeting homes in the area.
He said since the spate of burglaries began before Christmas, there had been more police officers out and about in the area.
"The police have been very good — I have noticed a visible presence since this has happened," he said.
"There has been some response from the public, who have been reporting any suspicious activity they see to the police."
Mr Warman added: "We rely on public co-operation, so I would urge anyone who sees anything suspicious in Cimla to contact the police.
"I hope the perpetrators get caught promptly."
South Wales Police confirmed that it had been increasing the number of patrols in the Cimla and Neath Port Talbot area in a bid to catch the culprits.
This week, police conducted a high-visibility operation in the area, where officers from the neighbourhood policing team and community safety department visited householders offering crime prevention advice.
More than 250 homes were visited, and their presence within the area was well received by residents.
Neath Port Talbot Sergeant Tim Barrell, who led the operation, said: "While crime in the area is low, we as a local policing team are always looking to remind people to take simple steps to reduce the chances of being a victim of crime.
"A third of burglaries in the area are through insecure doors, so simple measures such as locking your front door can reduce your chances of being burgled.
"I would encourage people to join their local neighbourhood watch scheme, and to report any suspicious activity to the police."
