Cardiff University has taken action against a Snapchat group which saw individuals sharing naked pictures and videos of themselves.
University officials have asked for the group – named “Cardiff Uni” – to be taken down with immediate effect, and have said that the group bears no affiliation with the University itself.
A spokesman for the university added that the group was “totally inappropriate”.
Female students exposing themselves
According to the student newspaper The Tab, the group was made up of more than 500 individuals.
The group was reportedly started yesterday, and since its creation pictures of female students revealing their breasts have been common.
Male users have also been seen on the app requesting more pictures.
As well as nudity, one set of images shows a male student passed out beside a men’s toilets. The group has now been closed after it was reported to university officials.
'Nothing to do with Cardiff University'
A Cardiff University spokesman said: “We are aware of these accounts.
“It is important to state that these social media accounts have nothing to do with Cardiff University and we are deeply concerned by the association; the totally inappropriate use of language and; the nature of images being shared.
“As a consequence, we have reported these accounts and requested they are closed immediately.”
The university said that any students that have complaints made against them will be investigated and could face disciplinary action.
The spokesman added: “If we receive any complaints involving a Cardiff University student they will be investigated through our established disciplinary procedures.
“We’d remind our students they need to be extremely careful and show some common sense about what they say or show online.”
