A FAMILY has been left devastated after thieves stole motor bikes valued at thousands of pounds.
To add insult to injury, Leon Dean had given a quad bike and competition bikes to his children as Christmas gifts.
Mr Dean, of Ffordd Pennant, Mostyn, also found that his own competition motocross bike, valued at £5,000, had been taken as well as tools to repair the bikes.
The father of three, 33, said his sons Dewi, six, and Lewis, 11, barely had chance get out on their new bikes since receiving them on December 25, riding them just once before thieves struck.
He added that his sons were left in tears when he had to explain what had happened to them.
He said: “Lewis was upset because he understands that it’s not something we can just replace overnight, but Dewi was crying his eyes out.
“Usually I take the kids out somewhere at the weekend to have a go on the bikes, but I had to explain to Dewi that we might not be able to get his back.
“It was really quite special for him because it was a Christmas present for him and he doesn’t understand why someone has taken it.”
Mr Dean said the Yamaha Banshee, KTM 150, KTM 200, YZ 85 and a child’s quad bike, valued at more than £10,000 in total, were taken from a locked shed during the early hours of Thursday, January 14.
“I'm a welder fabricator by trade so I made sure it was very secure,” he said. “They've broken through the locks and snapped them off from the inside.
“They’ve also managed to break through a few big chains to get to the bikes once they got inside the garage.
“I think they’ve used my tools to get at them because I do my own repairs.”
Mr Dean said the theft of his own bike had put the brakes on future planning for him and his family.
“I said to my girlfriend that I’d look to sell my competition bike later this year because on the road, it’s probably worth a lot more and we could have used the money as a down payment for a mortgage on our house.”
Mr Dean is offering a reward to anyone who can secure the safe return of the bikes.
Anyone with information relating to the theft is asked to contact North Wales Police on 101 quoting crime reference number RC16006444.
Mr Dean can be contacted on 07934951715.
