It's the third break-in in the space of a month at Caerau Athletic Football Club in Maesteg
The incident took place at Caerau Athletic Football Club in Maesteg when two men broke in, hacking down the club’s security door using the dangerous weapon before forcing open gaming machines to take cash.
According to Ken Horsborough, the club’s chairman, it is the third break-in in the space of a month, after two that took place over the Christmas period.
And Mr Horsborough said the club’s stewardess, Rachel Jones, who was around at the time of the break in, was lucky not to have come face to face with the intruders.
Since Thursday's incident, Ms Jones has confirmed she is considering quitting her job at the club through fear of it repeating itself again.
What if she'd confronted the pair?
The burglars allegedly cut electric wires, locking the security shutters. The sensory alarms did not go off until the burglars had got through another security door.
But Mr Horsborough said had electricity been switched on and the shutter door operated, Ms Jones’ life would have been put in danger if she'd confronted the pair.

He said: “That was my main concern, because God knows what would have happened had she been able to lift those shutters. God knows what they would have done.”
Mr Horsborough said although the burglars only took between £50-£100, it was “hugely worrying”.
First crowbars - now a machete
He added: “The first two times they used crowbars, which was bad enough. But it’s even worse with a weapon like a machete, which they must have been carrying around the area beforehand. God knows what would have happened if somebody had approached them.”

Mr Horsborough said the manner of the burglars, which can be seen in the CCTV video, made the incident more concerning.
“It was all just so casual. Although all of the alarms were going off, they had clearly done it before.”
Has cost the club dear
He also said although the amount taken was relatively small, the incident has cost the club thousands.
He said: “The door they hacked through and we now had to replace cost about £1,200, and the damage in the incident before that has cost us dearly too.
“It’s obviously more concerning of the threat to my staff. As chairman, I have a duty of care to Rachel, as well as all of our staff.
“We used to have cleaners come in early in the morning but we have stopped all of that for now.”
Fled through side door
The police were alerted, but the burglars escaped through another door in the side of the building shortly before they arrived.
Mr Horsborough is baffled why a small club has been targeted three times since Christmas.
He said: “I suppose we are doing well as a club compared with other clubs, so they may think it’s more likely there’s a bit more money here.”
Steel doors on order
Mr Horsborough said the club has already ordered a new two inch solid steel door, which he said will be more difficult to infiltrate.
Local councillor Wyn Davies said: “They knew what they were doing because they cut the wires and tried to rewire the electrics.
“This time round they went for the pick-up machine and used the machete to hack through the door and break into the machine. It’s obviously worrying to see that they’re using a weapon like a machete.”
Police appeal for help
A South Wales Police spokesman said the incident has been fully investigated, and there are two suspects.
Anyone with any information is urged to contact South Wales Police on 101 and quote incident log number 90/21.1.
