A man trying to pass off fake £50 notes on Saturday is being sought by police
Police are asking for information about a conman trying to pass off fake £50 notes in Colwyn Bay.
Officers describe the man as “large and white” and wearing an “army style” coat.
He was spotted in the town’s Bay View centre and tried to use the bogus tender in Morrison’s and Home Bargains.
Yesterday an eagle-eyed member of staff in Morrison’s spotted the bogus cash and summoned the management.
“The man came in here at about 1pm,” said manager Nigel Coulton. “A member of staff called me and it wasn’t a very good forgery to be honest, it was like Monopoly money.
“However, I am really pleased that the member of staff was alert to this conman.”
Holland and Barret manager Chris Rowley said he was alerted to the attempt by the town Shopwatch radio scheme.
“They put a call out over the Shopwatch radio at about 2.15pm,” he told the Daily Post. “But he has not tried to use the money here.”
A member of staff at Iceland also said she had been made aware of the dodgy shopper but he had not attempted to use the cash in their store.
“He came in here, Savers and Morrison’s as far as I am aware,” said Superdrug manager Rebecca Varney, who added he had not attempted to purchase anything.
North Wales Police have asked anyone who may have seen the man to call them on 101.
