A MAN smashed a glass plate and vandalised a wall in an row with his mother over his cannabis use, a court heard.
Daniel Maurice Nicholas Connah, 25, smashed the plate – a Christmas present to his mother Jayne Morrison from her grandchildren – and wrote his initials on the wall during the argument at their home on High Street, Rhos.
James Neary, prosecuting, told Wrexham Magistrates Court Connah had spent the morning of January 5 in Buckley. He had been drinking and smoking cannabis and there was a row between the pair when he arrived home.
After Connah had done the damage, his mother pushed him out of the room and into the hallway. She then called the police.
Connah, now of Lyme Grove in Buckley, said he was a heavy cannabis user but it would normally make him feel ‘chilled out’. He told officers Ms Harrison had been drinking and had been in an argument with her partner that morning. She appeared to be angry because of that row.
Connah had been smoking cannabis, Mr Neary said, and she had been ‘having a go’ at him and had grabbed him.
But Connah accepted during the interview he was responsible for the damage, the court heard. He pleaded guilty at the hearing to causing criminal damage.
Ceri Evans, defending, said there had been a row and that Connah ‘fully regretted’ what he had done.
Connah had no previous convictions, Miss Evans added, and had suffered ‘quite extreme consequences’ as a result of the offence. While he had given his grandmother’s home in Buckley as a care of address, he was now ‘technically homeless’ and would have to look for emergency housing.
District judge Mark Layton fined Connah £75 and ordered him to pay £50 compensation to his mother. He must also pay £85 in prosecution costs and a statutory surcharge.
