A man who punched his ex-partner’s new boyfriend in his face leaving him able to eat only soup was jailed for 14 months today.
Prosecuting barrister Matthew Dunford told Caernarfon Crown Court that Kenny Wyn Jones, 26, attacked care worker Taylor Reynolds at the home of Jones’ former partner, Angharad Evans after taking drink and drugs.
Jones, of High Street, Blaenau Ffestiniog, had pleaded guilty to burglary by entering Ms Evans’ home as a trespasser and assaulting her as well as her new boyfriend, Taylor Reynolds, on the night of September 16, last year.
Mr Dunford said Jones, a kitchen porter at Portmeirion at the time of the offence, had been in a relationship with Ms Evans for around five years and they had three young children.
Mr Dunford said his behaviour had been “controlling”, which worsened after he took cannabis.
At the beginning of September, Ms Evans had called police to complain about his harassing her. On September 16, she ignored Jones’ texts but he turned up at her home, pushed her to the chest and forced his way in. He then pushed her so she banged her head on a door while their children slept upstairs.
Jones then found Mr Reynolds and punched him a dozen times his head despite both Mr Reynolds and Ms Evans imploring him to stop. Mr Jones was taken to Ysbyty Gwynedd ,Bangor with bruising and swelling to his face.
Mr Dunford said Jones then handed himself to police, adding Jones had drunk eight cans of lager and taken two lines of cocaine. He also had a cannabis grinder.
Mr Dunford said Mr Reynolds lost work because of the assault and still had pain in his jaw.
Miss Jade Tufail for Jones said: “He lost his temper and feels terrible about what he did.”
Sentencing Jones to 14 months jail, Judge Philip Harris-Jenkins said: “He lost work as a result of your actions; he had to eat soup as a result of your actions while you were under the influence of alcohol ad drugs. It seems a shame that having made something of your life that you have on this night reverted back to your old ways.”
He said Jones will serve half of his sentence before being released on licence. He also gave him a restraining order not to contact Mr Reynolds or Ms Evans, apart from making arrangements regarding contact with the children until January 22, 2020.
After the sentencing, Detective Sergeant Lisa Jones said: “North Wales Police are committed to ensure that people feel safe, secure and unthreatened by crime within their home and in public places. As such we will actively pursue violent offenders who cause harm within our communities.”
