A CASH reward has been backed by a community council to help bring estate arsonists to justice.
Caia Park Community Council is backing a £1,000 reward for information leading to a successful conviction of arsonists who torched The Venture playground this month.
Cllr Marc Jones, who chairs Caia Park Community Council, met with Police and Crime Commissioner Winston Roddick on Tuesday night to discuss the ongoing arson problem in the area.
Cllr Jones said the community council had backed plans to offer a reward to catch the arsonists.
He said: “We’ve asked the Police and Crime Commissioner to put the money up from his community fund and he will look at that option.”
He added it was part of a wider strategy the council was keen to develop to tackle arsons in the area, whether it was to cars, wheelie bins or buildings, ‘before someone is badly injured or even killed’.
Cllr Jones said: “I’ll be taking the information we've received from the Commissioner back to the council to take this forward but I’m hopeful we will be seeing some more direct policing in the coming weeks and months.
“The community council will play its part along with other organisations in Caia and that will hopefully deliver results as people in the area become more confident that something is being done.
“Too many people have had their property destroyed by these mindless attacks so it’s high time we saw some real action to tackle these crimes.”
