A former soldier died of cocaine poisoning after a package containing the drug leaked into his body.
Geraint Llyr Jones, 32, originally from Nefyn, was waiting to be sentenced for his role in an incident at the JD Wetherspoon pub in Pwllheli at the time of his death.
He had planned to go for Sunday lunch with his girlfriend Allison Wright, of Upper Ala Road, Pwllheli on September 6 last year.
But she told an inquest held in Caernarfon into his death today that when they met up, Mr Jones “wasn’t himself”, was “sweating heavily” and she suspected that he had taken drugs.
She ordered him to pack his bags and leave her house, only for him to return to the property a short while later asking to be let back in while he was talking to somebody on his mobile phone.
She let him in and later on, while both of them were in the bathroom, she saw Mr Jones put his hand down his pants and pull a “cling-film package” out of his bottom.
Ms Wright added: “He was sitting in the bath with his trousers down and asking me to help him. I took the package and flushed it down the toilet.”
He then asked her to fetch him water and food and when she returned to the bathroom, Mr Jones appeared to be “fitting”.
'Unforseen event'
The emergency services were called and despite the fact he was revived for a short time, Mr Jones died in the ambulance on the way to hospital after suffering a cardiac arrest.
She told the inquest that she believed he had taken a drug called M-cat.
Ysbyty Gwynedd pathologist Dr Mark Lord said toxicity tests showed he had died due to “cocaine poisoning” but there was no trace of M-cat in his system.
Recording a verdict of accidental death, North West Wales senior coroner Dewi Pritchard Jones said the package of cocaine had “accidentally leaked” into the soft tissue of Mr Jones’ bottom.
Mr Jones said: “It was that wrap which had leaked. It was an entirely unforeseen event as far as he was concerned.”
Mr Jones had previously served with the Royal Welch Fusiliers in Iraq.
He had pleaded guilty to charges of obstructing a police officer, common assault and criminal damage following an inquest at the JD Wetherspoon-run Pen Cob in Pwllheli in June when police officers had to use a taser gun on him so he could be apprehended.
He had been due to be sentenced at Caernarfon Magistrates’ court days after his sudden death.
