Prestatyn,North Wales - Community in shock after man is stabbed in broad daylight

A heavy police presence remains  around Lon Ceiriog to reassure residents as officers search the area and conduct door-to-door enquiries

A community in Prestatyn has told of its shock after a man was stabbed in broad daylight leaving him with serious injuries .
The 24-year-old man was stabbed in the chest in the Lon Ceiriog area of Prestatyn , at about 1.45pm on Monday, January 4.
An ambulance was called shortly before 2pm to a property on Lon Brynli, just across from Lon Ceiriog, where he is understood to have recently moved in to.
He was rushed to Ysbyty Glan Clwyd, Bodelwyddan, before being airlifted to a hospital in Stoke.
Today forensic and police officers were conducting house to house enquiries and searching for items relevant to the inquiry in the vicinity of Lon Ceiriog, Lon Brynli and the surrounding area.
No arrests have been made and police are still hunting whoever carried out the attack.

Community reaction

Janet Diamond, who lives next door on Lon Brynli, said: “We don’t know the man and he has only just moved in.
“We didn’t hear anything, we were in the back, but my daughter who lives nearby telephoned to say there were loads of police outside.
“To be honest it has been really unsettling. This is a quiet area and I used to leave the door open because my daughter and grandson live so close by, but I will be keeping the doors firmly locked from now on.
“Nothing like this has happened before and it really is shocking.”
Christine Riley, who has lived on Lon Ceiriog for three years said: “I have lived in Wales for 24 years and have never seen anything like this.
“I did not see what had happened, but I heard that the person stabbed had been seen running down the street with blood on him
“It is a very community minded area and people here are feeling very shocked at what has happened.”

Landlady Mrs Owen, who owns a property across from where the attack happened said: “It is really shocking.
“We have managed this premises for 12 years and there has never been anything like this happen before - it is mostly pensioners and some young people.”
Eyewitnesses said up to five police cars were on the scene as well as an emergency ambulance and the Wales Air Ambulance helicopter.
Today there was still a heavy police presence on the two streets.

Police investigation

Senior Investigating Officer Detective Chief Inspector Jason Devonport said: “Officers, a police helicopter and members of the dog section were called to the location to assist in the search for the individual responsible. To date, no arrests have been made however extensive inquiries are on-going.
“From our inquiries we believe that the victim and offender were known to each other and we would like to reassure members of the local community that our comprehensive work continues.”
DCI Devonport added: “We remain extremely keen to speak to anyone who has information relating to the incident, who was in the Lon Ceiriog or Lon Brynli areas at around 1.45pm on Monday and believes they saw something that may assist us with our investigations to please get in touch with us at St Asaph CID immediately on 101.”
High visibility patrols are being undertaken in the area to reassure the community.
