An application has been made by the Ministry of Defence to discharge Sapper James McDermott from the Army

A disgraced war hero from Llandudno has been jailed for more than two years for a vicious assault at a nightclub.
Sapper James McDermott, of Maidstone Barracks, attacked two men in the toilets of a Maidstone nightclub in April last year.
An application has been made by the Ministry of Defence for the former Ysgol John Bright pupil to be kicked out of the Army.
In 2014, McDermott, 22, was mentioned in dispatches for a heroic rescue under enemy fire in Afghanistan.
The soldier, who joined the armed forces in 2009, was commended after his quick thinking helped save the lives of British and Afghan soldiers.
He was on patrol with personnel from the Afghan National Civil Police Order (ANCOP) when the group came under heavy fire from eight positions, injuring the patrol commander and an Afghan soldier.
While in sight of the enemy, McDermott ran across open ground to treat his injured commander, and moved him to the cover of a Mastiff carrier nearby.
He then ran 30 metres to the injured ANCOP soldier, before treating him and carrying him over his shoulder to another Mastiff.
The disgraced soldier faces two and a half years behind bars after being convicted of assault and causing grievous bodily harm.
On Friday, Maidstone Crown Court heard how McDermott, along with fellow soldier Tom Gray, attacked Christopher Davis and Jack Briden.
The 22-year-old kicked Mr Davis in the head during the incident at The Source nightclub.
The victim was left with a cut to the back of his head which needed to be glued.
Mr Briden needed surgery after trying to intervene and being punched in the face three times, leaving him with a broken nose. He also had a torn rotator cuff.
The citation in 2014 said McDermott, who serves in the 26 Engineer Regiment, Corps of Royal Engineers, had shown “impressive premeditated gallantry” to break enemy fire and rescue colleagues.
A spokesman for the Ministry of Defence said: “All those who are found to fall short of the Army’s high standards, or who are found to have committed an offence under the Armed Forces Act, are dealt with administratively (up to and including dismissal) or through the disciplinary process, as applicable.
“In line with normal procedure, when a soldier is sentenced to imprisonment, an application will be made for his discharge from the Army.”
