A PUPPY believed to have been given as a Christmas present has been dumped outside a Flintshire house. The seven-week-old dog was abandoned on Wednesday – in the middle of Storm Frank.
Nicky Owen, media relations and fundraising manager at the North Clwyd Animal Rescue (NCAR), said the puppy had been left at risk of dying in such conditions.
He is being cared for temporarily by a family but will not be ready for a permanent new home until he is older and has undergone health checks.
Staff at NCAR in Trelogan have been caring the pup, which is that small they cannot yet determine his breed.
Ms Owen said: “It was obviously an unwanted Christmas puppy.
“This little cutie is now in a ‘foster’ home as he is far too small to be put in a kennel.”
The charity is now desperately urging people not to abandon any unwanted pets.
“He is only about seven-weeks-old if that. He is very tiny,” Ms Owen added.
“We are unsure what breed he is as he is so small, but there is maybe some spaniel/terrier in there.
“It’s so sad that this had to happen and he was so small to be left outside someone’s house.
“We want to send out the message to everyone, no matter what the circumstances, please do not dump your unwanted pets.
“Take them to a rescue like us in your area and we will always try and help where we can.
“There is no need to dump them. Remember, they have hearts and feeling too.”
Ms Owen said: “If this pup hadn’t been found he may not of been with us today due to the weather we have all been experiencing recently.”
