Councillors have been warned that spider webs covering the cameras in Blaenau Ffestiniog are rendering the footage useless to police

This historic Welsh town is caught in a web of crime as spiders are helping criminals by obscuring the lenses of CCTV cameras with their cobwebs.
According to a report in the Cambrian News, councillors were warned at a recent meeting of Ffestiniog Town Council that the cobwebs are rendering the footage useless to police.
The sub committee was told that the CCTV cameras across Blaenau Ffestiniog in Gwynedd are covered in spider webs.

It was agreed that the town clerk will be responsible for checking the cameras from the council office once a week to ensure they can transmit a clear image.
It seems the councillors are not the first people to encounter this problem, which is a hot topic in security forums.
Writing on the Security Info Watch web forum, one member posted: “What can I do to keep webs from obscuring my camera view?”
Another member replied: “We had this issue really badly at one of the sites I worked at and it’s really difficult to combat.
“We had spiders continuously building webs outside our primary camera. The maintenance guys would go and tear the web down and by the next shift it was back up.”
