POLICE have made a plea for help in tackling an estate’s arson problem.
PCSO Rob Parry told members of Caia Park Community Council there had been 16 arsons on the estate in the last month and the issue has been made a “priority” for the force
He also called on residents and community leaders to give as much help as possible.
“The main thing we are focusing on is arson at the moment. That is a priority”, he said.
“One of the initiatives the inspector has asked us to do is get the community involved and volunteers to help assist the police, and come up with ideas to tackle them. We are asking for the help of respected members of the community.”
PCSO Parry added that North Wales had received intelligence from other police forces regarding the recent spate of arsons and was doing everything possible to get to the root of the problem.
Members agreed they would help the police in any way they could.
Queensway councillor Colin Powell said: “There are very legitimate concerns that these arsons are ongoing and there is a high degree of unease among residents.
“I want to send a message back with the police that resources are needed to tackle it.”
Whitegate councillor Brian Cameron suggested it might be helpful for the police to hold a number of public meetings around the estate, which PCSO Parry agreed was a good idea.
Concerns were also raised that there had been 13 burglaries on the estate in the past month.
Cllr Powell said: “It’s understandable that they are on the increase at this time of year with people stocking up on presents, but burglaries near Christmas cause distress.”
