Snowdonia,North Wales - Two men rescued from Moelwyn mountains in treacherous weather

We have had severe weather warnings for weeks here in North Wales, yet these fools decide to go camping up the mountain, apart from being lucky to be alive, they also put the rescue team in danger, and at the very least should be charged for their stupidity?

One man suffered hypothermia and a twisted ankle during last night's stormy weather

A man suffering from hypothermia who was lost in atrocious weather conditions in the Moelwyn mountains, was rescued by South Snowdonia Search and Rescue Team last night.
Conditions were so bad the Bristows 936 Rescue helicopter was unable to land, and the 29-year-old man, who also injured his ankle, had to be helped down Allt y Ceffylau in the Moelwynion.
The man had been camping with his friend over the weekend and ran out of food and water.
Rescue teams were called at 6.10pm last night to assist the two men who had been trying to get back down the mountain to their car but were having difficulty navigating their way.
Merfyn Jones (Smyrff) South Snowdonia Secretary said: “The men got into difficulties above Allt y Ceffylau in the Moelwynion.
“They had camped Friday night and on their way down to their vehicles the 29-year old had become very tired and was suffering from hypothermia and a twisted ankle.
“Basically he had hit a wall, and his friend did the right thing in calling the emergency services.
“Two parties were sent out to find them in poor visibility and in challenging terrain.
“After they were located and the patient assessed, Bristows 936 Rescue were called but were unable to attend immediately due to poor weather.
“A quick decision was then taken to assist the men in getting back down the mountain and the 29-year-old man was stretchered down.
“Further team members arrived and they were helped into the team Land Rover at Cwmorthin Quarry and transferred to a waiting ambulance at Blaenau Ffestiniog.”
The injured man was then taken to Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor.
Mr Jones added: “I wouldn’t like to call the men reckless as they did have the right mountaineering equipment.
“But I’m a mountaineer and the conditions weren’t really suitable for either walking or camping.
“The men were very pleased to see us, and grateful.”
