HOUSEHOLDERS in Port Talbot are being urged to be on their guard after 25 burglaries in a month.
Officers are urging people to take steps to help keep their properties safe — and are calling on the community to act as the "eyes and ears" of the police report any suspicious behaviour.
Extra high-visibility and plain-clothed patrols are taking place in response to the sudden spike, and four people have so far been arrested in connection with the incidents.

South Wales Police detective chief inspector Esyr Jones - the head of CID in Swansea and Neath Port Talbot - said: "Twenty-five burglaries in a month for the Port Talbot area is unusual, and is a much higher number than we normally see which is why we are issuing this advice.
"The public are our eyes and ears — burglars often live in, or near, the very communities in which they operate, so we would ask that any suspicious behaviour or individuals are brought to our attention immediately.
"It is important we all work together to keep the area safe."
The 25 November burglaries and attempted burglaries included six in Baglan, five in Sandfields East, and four in Port Talbot town centre.
Police say many of the break-ins happened during the day when the householders were out, with the thieves targeting small easily-carried items, keys, cash and jewellery.
Police are urging people to take simple steps to help beat the burglars including keeping doors and windows locked, not leaving expensive gadgets such as iPads on show, and fitting alarms and CCTV systems.
The DCI added: "We think it is important that we advise people what is taking place so they can take necessary steps to protect their homes."
