A TEENAGER was left petrified after a hooded yob wielding a hammer smashed a patio door window at his home.
The would-be-thief, who was caught on CCTV with a second male, was seen fleeing the property on Halkyn Road, Flint, on Monday at about 2.30pm.
Alex Martin, 26, who lives at the address, said he believes they were trying to burgle the house but were scared off by his dog.
He said his 14-year-old brother Lewis Hughes was at home at the time and has been left frightened following the attack.
The footage also catches one of the vandals using the hammer to smash the windscreen on Mr Martin’s car.
“They have come down the drive and knocked on the door,” said Mr Martin.
“My little brother was inside. He is off school because he has broken his leg and he is on crutches.
“I think the dog must have barked because one of them started running away.
“The other one has hit the patio door about four times with a hammer. You can see him swinging at it.
“He has then come down the drive and done the car with the hammer.”
Lewis was in his room playing a computer game with a friend at the time of the attempted break-in.
“He was petrified,” said Mr Martin.
“My mum has had to stay off work with him because of this.
“I am normally at home.
“I just can’t believe it has happened in broad daylight.
“It is not even the fact that they have put the windows through, it is that my little brother was at home.
“If he would have answered the door what would they have done?”
Lewis called his parents and then the police to alert them to what had happened.
A police spokesman said: “We had reports that two males dressed in all black were at a property on Halkyn Road, Flint.
“There was a knock at the door, then a large patio window has been smashed with a hammer or something similar.
“They are then seen walking up Windsor Drive and then getting into a vehicle on the junction of Woodlands Drive. There’s no description of the vehicle.”
Police say they are treating the offence as criminal damage.
Anyone with any information should call 101 quoting crime reference number S183108.
