A 40 year old man is set to appear at court accused of raping a young woman outside Cardiff University.

Remus Hamza, of Riverside, Cardiff, is due to enter a plea at Cardiff Crown Court on Tuesday morning.

The defendant is alleged to have sexually assaulted a 20-year-old woman near the university’s main building.

The attack is said to have taken place in the early hours of September 20 during the university’s Freshers’ Week.

During an earlier hearing prosecutor Michael Jones told Cardiff Crown Court that he expected Hamza to enter a not guilty plea.

He has since been remanded in custody.

A trial date has meanwhile been set for February next year in anticipation of a not guilty plea.
