Ian James Walters was sentenced to 21 years after being convicted of 11 offences
A London man has been jailed for 21 years for 11 historical sexual offences against children, including rape, which he committed while living in south Wales.
Ian James Walters, who lives in Barking, was sentenced following a trial at Newport Crown Court on Thursday.
The 57-year-old lived in the Adamsdown and Llanrumney areas of the city when he committed the offences against teenage girls and would have been in his 30s at the time.
His two victims come forward in 2015 and 2016 to report what happened to them between the years 1994 and 2000.
Walters was arrested in March 2016 and was subsequently charged with multiple historic sex offences against children.
He pleaded not guilty to all charges leaving the case to go to trial but was found guilty of all offences in January this year.
Detective Constable Rebecca Fox, who led the investigation, said: “This was a very complex investigation due to the time that had passed but one which has ended in justice for the two victims.
“He prayed on two young girls who were vulnerable and he had banked his freedom on them never having the courage to come forward after he told them nobody would ever believe them all those years ago.
“But they did and I have nothing but praise and respect for the bravery that these two victims – now grown women – have shown.
“I hope this verdict provides them with some closure knowing that he hasn’t got away with what were disgusting crimes.
“I also hope it encourages others to come forward and to realise that it is never too late for somebody to pay the price for what they did even if it was many years ago.”
