A man whose young daughter had pleaded “stop daddy, stop” as he beat up his partner at her home had waged a “violent and bullying attitude” towards the woman for eight years, a judge said.
Darren Sheridan, 35, of Towyn Road, Towyn, was jailed for 42 months after admitting three attacks involving grievous bodily harm.
Judge Huw Rees at Caernarfon Crown Court told him that his former partner was almost eight years younger than him and vulnerable.
The victim received a “serious beating” when she sought refuge in the daughter’s room during the latest violence.
Prosecutor Matthew Curtis said last June, after they had been drinking, “controlling” Sheridan was described as having “venom” in his eyes and the woman was bruised, cut and appeared to have bite marks following an attack.
But a CT scan also discovered a cracked sternum, broken nose and a jaw fracture.
Later the victim agreed to support a prosecution. “Since reporting the incident to the police she felt a massive relief,” Mr Curtis said. But she was also scared about the future.
In 2008, while living in Wigan, the woman suffered a broken arm as she blocked a kick from the defendant. Mr Curtis said she had lied to medics about how her injury occurred.
Four years later the violence continued at Bolton when Sheridan pushed over a wardrobe which broke her collar bone. Again the victim had covered up what really happened.
Simon Mintz, defending, said the offences stemmed from a “very destructive” relationship with heavy drinking and a chaotic lifestyle. There was shame and remorse and the relationship was over.
“His (Sheridan’s) downward spiral probably started after he was victim of a traumatic attack,” the barrister added.
A five-year restraining order was made.
