A woman was assaulted on a pub dance floor while a local boxing hero’s fight was being shown on a big screen.
Flintshire magistrates were told the “whole of Deeside was out” to see the televised bout of boxer Tom Doran.
Sarah Louise Thompson, 26, admitted assaulting Abbey Brookfield at The Boathouse sports bar at Connah’s Quay on the night of June 26.
She was given a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £50 compensation and £85 prosecution costs.
Prosecutor Rhian Jackson said the complainant had been at a friend’s house for a barbecue and then went to the Boathouse where she and friends were dancing around their handbags.
There had been an incident which did not involve her and it appeared to have defused.
But Thompson then approached her and grabbed her hair, causing her to fall to the floor.
The prosecutor said the complainant wanted the staff to help her but they were “not very helpful, I am afraid,” Mrs Jackson said.
The victim went out and spoke to police but because of their commitments she was told to report the matter the following day.
Mrs Jackson said the complainant carried out her own investigations via Facebook and was able to email details of Thompson to the police.
She was interviewed and told how the “whole of Deeside was out” that night for Mr Doran’s boxing match on the television, but she answered “no comment” to questions about the assault.
In a victim impact statement Miss Brookfield told how her work as a support worker had been affected and she felt intimidated by Thompson.
She said it was an unprovoked assault.
Brian Cross, defending, said CCTV showed the two women face to face, the complainant put her arm on the defendant’s shoulder and then Thompson pushed the victim to the floor.
He asked the Mold court to accept there had been an element of provocation.
