A COUNCIL tenant was caught growing cannabis in his flat when workmen called round to fix a water leak, a court has heard.
When local authority housing maintenance staff went to Alan Hayden Roberts' Swansea property on October 13 they found six small cannabis plants in a bedroom, along with hydroponic growing equipment.

They told their manager about the discovery, and the police were alerted.

The following day Roberts returned to his flat to find the police had seized the drugs.
Swansea Magistrates' Court heard the 50-year-old initially told officers the plants belonged to his son, before admitting the drugs were his.
Roberts, of Matthew Street in the city centre, pleaded guilty to possessing six cannabis plants and 3.5grams of the drug when he appeared before justices.
The court heard the defendant has six previous convictions for some nine offences, but none for drugs matters.
Dan Heard, defending Roberts, said his client suffered from chronic sciatica, and was self-medicating with cannabis. He said the defendant began growing his own rather than buying it to save money, adding "taking drugs can be a costly business".
Roberts was fined £300, and was ordered to pay £85 costs and a £30 court surcharge.
