Paul Owen Jones and James Owen Jones stole wedding and engagament rings as well as electronic devices during a series of raids in the Wrexham area
Two burglars have each been jailed for three years for a series of raids in the Wrexham area.
One family’s engagement and weddings rings were taken together with inherited jewellery which would not be replaced, Mold Crown Court heard.
They were so traumatised that they could not bring themselves to leave their home after the burglary and lost more than £500 by cancelling a planned holiday.
Another victim was devastated because the family had been burgled before.
Paul Owen Jones, 22, of Cefn Dre, Hightown, Wrexham, and James Owen Jones, 23, of Bersham Road, Wrexham, were each “three strike” burglars which meant they faced statutory three-year minimum sentences.
Both admitted two house burglaries on September 29 at Croesnewydd Road, Wrexham.
James Owen Jones admitted an attempted burglary in Benjamin Road, Wrexham, on October 3 and Paul admitted a house burglary at Fairy Road, Wrexham, on September 28.
Both denied house burglaries at Sontley Road and Salisbury Road on September 26 and their pleas were accepted by the prosecution.
Prosecutor Emmalyne Downing said one victim returned home to find the alarm sounding.
A rock had been thrown through the window and an iPhone and an iPad had been taken.
Another victim returned from a doctor’s appointment and found the patio door open.
He found the utility room window smashed with glass on the floor. The victim phoned the police, went to look for his cat, and saw a man running away down a path next to his garden.
'Blighted by fears'
Drawers had been opened, computer tablets and phones had been taken, together with jewellery and watches.
Next door a UPVC window at the rear of the property had been damaged and a large amount of property had been taken while the owners were out.
The haul included a wedding ring, an engagement ring, and jewellery.
A purse had been taken including personal papers and bank cards together with a Kindle, four watches, three external hard drives and an iPad.
Police investigating a spate of burglaries were on duty on October 3 when they heard a loud bang.
A window had been broken in Benjamin Road and officers saw James Owen Jones leave the driveway. He was arrested.
Judge Niclas Parry said lengthy custodial sentences in the past had not deterred them.
“You simply return to your communities and continue to attack those communities,” he said.
The judge said that the victim’s lives had been “blighted by fears for the future”.
Judge Parry said the burglaries were seriously aggravated by their very poor records which included numerous burglaries.
Paul Owen Jones had previously served a three-year prison sentence, he said.
James Owen Jones had served a two-and-a-half-year sentence in the past and was in breach of a suspended prison sentence at the time.
Both received three-year sentences and James Owen Jones received an additional eight weeks consecutive after the suspended sentence was activated.
