Cardiff council provoked controversy by asking residents to clear up leaves on their street

A driver who tested positive for cocaine has been jailed after leading police on a chase which reached speeds of 78mph and which lasted seven minutes.
John Paul Jones, 27, was pulled over by police in Brynhyfryd, Caerphilly, in June for a routine check.
But when officers approached Jones’ vehicle he sped off – and only stopped when his car became wedged in a footpath tunnel underneath a railway bridge.

Gwent Police said Jones, of Cilfynydd Road, Cilfynydd, Pontypridd, had displayed “sheer recklessness” and had put himself, other drivers, and police officers at risk.

According to a statement from the force the pursuit came to an end when the vehicle entered The Crescent in Caerphilly and continued down the footpath underneath a railway bridge towards Churchill Park. The vehicle then got wedged in the tunnel and blocked the footpath.

Gwent police said the pursuit came to an end when the vehicle got wedged in a tunnel 
Jones was handed an 18-month prison sentence by a Cardiff Crown Court judge for dangerous driving, failing to stop for police, driving while disqualified, failure to provide a blood sample for analysis, and driving without insurance.
Gwent Police PC Matt Richley said: “He [drove] in such a manner that he not only put members of the public at risk but also himself, his passengers, and the police.

“The pursuit of John Paul Jones drew to a close in a moment of sheer recklessness and stupidity when he decided to drive down a footpath and get himself wedged in a railway tunnel.
“Upon arrest John Paul Jones provided a positive reading for cocaine.”
