Wrexham,North Wales - Burglar who targeted sleeping mother and five children jailed

Floyd Patrick Vassell, 27, was on licence for previous burglaries when he crept into his victim's home in Wrexham

A man who burgled houses in his home town of Wrexham while the victims slept in their beds has been jailed for three years today.
Floyd Patrick Vassell, 27, was on licence at the time after he was released from prison for previous house burglaries.
He admitted an early morning house raid at Y Wern in Wrexham , on October 11, when a mother and her five children were in their beds after her husband had gone to work.
During that raid he stole property, including a Play Station, games, eight pairs of 3D glasses, and a handbag containing cash and bank cards, with a total value of £1,500.
Vassell, who appeared at Mold Crown Court today via video linkfrom Altcourse Prison in Liverpool, asked for four other burglaries to be taken into consideration.
The court heard Vassell had nine previous convictions for house burglary, had previously served a three-year sentence, and also had a conviction for robbery.
Judge Keith Thomas said: “You have an appalling record of offending, particularly in relation to breaking into other people’s homes."
Referring to the October 11 raid, David Mainstone, prosecuting, said that a man left his home shortly before 5.30am to go to work.
He received a call from his partner indicating she could not find her purse and when he returned it was found that a number of items had been stolen.
CCTV showed the defendant leaving the property at about 6.40am with a wooden drawer laden with stolen items.
Vassell was arrested a week later and was found hiding in a shed.
It turned out that the defendant had been responsible for other burglaries at Coed Aben, Gwenfro and Churchill Drive.
There had also been a burglary with intent to steal in Rosemary Drive.
Oliver King, defending, said this client admitted the burglaries on the Caia Park Estate and wanted to wipe the slate clean.
He said Vassell was sorry for what he had done.
Mr King said Vassell’s father had passed away while he (the defendant) was in prison.
He said when his client was released from jail he took cocaine as a coping mechanism and in order to fund his habit he went back to his old ways.

Mr King said: “He was in a desperate situation.”
