Wrexham.North Wales - Man jailed after escaping from police while under arrest

Published date: 29 November 2016 |

A man under arrest for alleged assault gave police officers the slip at Wrexham Maelor Hospital, a judge has been told
When a police car outside the hospital was blocked in Jake Harvey, 23, of Benjamin Road, Wrexham, escaped by running off across the car park.
Harvey, who had been treated for a hand injury, was jailed for four months after pleading guilty to escaping from lawful custody.
Defence barrister Jamie Baxter told Caernarfon Crown Court yesterday that Harvey, an engineer, had been at large for only an hour. “There was no violence or force. It was opportunistic and unsophisticated,” he added.
Judge Peter Heywood told Harvey: “You had been arrested for assault but you had injured your hand and the police, quite properly, took you to the hospital for treatment.
”On the way back to the police station you took the opportunity of legging it when the officers were distracted.
“Escape is always viewed seriously by the courts but I have taken into account all that has been said about you.”
