A MAN who stole a bank card and PIN number in a late-night drug-fuelled creeper burglary gave the card to his mum — and the two of them went to a cash machine and withdrew more than £200 from the victim's account.
The card was among a number of items, including an iPhone and PlayStation games console, taken by Matthew Grant Davies when he broke into the house in Melyn, Neath, while the victim and her 14-year-old daughter were asleep.
Swansea Crown Court heard the 20-year-old returned to his nearby home after the break-in and gave the card to his mum — the two of them then went to a cash machine and withdrew money.
Helen Randall, prosecuting, said a month later — when police went to the Davies's Crythan Road house on unrelated matters — one of the officers recognised 42-year-old Sarah Elizabeth May Davies from CCTV footage taken at the Mile End garage ATM.
Davies and Davies admitted what had happened — and though a police search of the property failed to find the stolen phone and console, it did uncover a haul of other items taken in another burglary including a laptop computer, digital camera and Visa card.
Matthew Davies had previously pleaded guilty to burglary and to handling stolen goods, and Sarah Davies to fraud, receiving stolen goods, and failing to surrender to bail, when they appeared in the dock together for sentencing.

The court heard Matthew Davies has three previous convictions for five offences, while his mother was of previously clean character.
Dan Williams, for Matthew Davies, said his client had a "turbulent upbringing" with "non-existent family support", and that the five weeks he had spent on remand in prison prior to the sentencing hearing had been "a short, sharp, shock".
Tom Scapens, for Sarah Davies, said his client had co-operated with police from the start and admitted using the card.
Recorder Paul Hopkins told Davies he had "violated the sanctuary" of the victims' home while under the influence of drugs.
He told the defendant he was at a crossroads in his life where, having now tasted custody, he had a choice to make about his future.
For each of the burglary and handling stolen goods charges Davies was sentenced to 10 months in a young offenders institution suspended for two years, both to run concurrently. He was also ordered to complete 200 hours of unpaid work.
The recorder told Sarah Davies she had used the bank card knowing it was stolen, and he sentenced her to a six month community order with a three month 7pm to 7am nightly curfew.
