Swansea,South Wales - Teenager who spat at policeman on Swansea's Wind Street is locked up

Liam Corp was sentenced to four weeks in a young offenders institution after spitting at a policeman on Wind Street
A TEENAGER who spat at a policeman during a drunken rant has been locked up.
Liam John Corp unleashed a torrent of abuse at the officer during a night out on Swansea's Wind Street, shouting in his face and showering him with spittle.
Swansea Magistrates Court heard the officer warned the 18-year-old a number of times about his behaviour before arresting him.
Julie Sullivan, prosecuting, said a "loud and boisterous" Corp approached officers on Wind Street on the night of November 25 after learning his friend had been arrested.
She said Corp began shouting in the face of a sergeant on duty on the street, demanding to know why his friend had been detained and telling the officer he had "a right to know" what was going on, and asking the officer "who do you think you are?".
The court heard that as he shouted, his spit was hitting the officer — the officer repeatedly told him to step back and calm down, and warned him he would be arrested.

When his behaviour continued he was arrested — and he continued to be "verbally aggressive" to the officer on the drive to Swansea Central police station.
Miss Sullivan said police were under the impression Corp was "under the influence of drink or drugs".
Corp, of Ilfracombe Crescent, Llanrumney, Cardiff, pleaded guilty to assaulting a constable in the execution of his duty when he appeared before justices.
The court heard the teenager has two previous convictions for three offences, and is currently on a suspended sentence imposed in Cardiff in January this year.
Tom Trobe, for Corp, said his client wore braces on his teeth which affected the way he spoke and caused spittle to come out of his mouth when he shouted — he said the case could be distinguished from those where a defendant had deliberately gathered spittle in his mouth in order to spit it.
The solicitor added that Corp had been concerned about his friend's arrested, but accepted what he should have done was take a few steps back and not shout when talking to the officer.
For assaulting a constable Corp was sentenced to four weeks in a young offenders institution and fined £45 — magistrates also activated four weeks of the previously imposed sentence to run consecutively, making a total of eight weeks custody. Corp must also pay the officer he spat at £100 compensation.
