Richard Felton, 58, today received a 12-month suspended sentence after attacking Richard Littleton in an unprovoked attack
A thug chatted with a man in a pub before smashing him in the face with a glass that left him scarred.
In an unprovoked attack Richard Felton, 58, assaulted Richard Littleton in the Torrent Walk pub in Smithfield Street, Dolgellau .
Felton, of Ardd Fawr, Dolgellau, left his victim with injuries to his chin and lip on August 28.
Felton, who appeared at Caernarfon Crown Court today had already admitted a charge of assault when he appeared before magistrates earlier this month.
The bench considered the matter so serious they sent the matter to the higher court for sentence.
Handing Felton a 12-month prison term suspended for 18 months Judge Huw Rees said defendant he was lucky not to be facing a far more serious charge.
He said: “This is an incident that should not have happened at all.
“You struck a man with a glass in your hand.
“You could have blinded him with a blow like that.
“When you saw the CCTV footage you were moved and showed genuine remorse,” the judge added.
In addition to the jail term Felton has been banned from entering any licensed premises in Dolgellau for the next two years.
Simon Rogers, prosecuting, said Mr Littleton knew Felton.
He said Felton had spent the day drinking and was very drunk when the incident happened.
“When he (the victim) was struck in the face he was taken completely by surprise,”
Other people in the pub went to his aid and Felton was escorted off the premises." Mr Rogers said.
Mr Littleton went to hospital. He was left with a scar on his chin.
Mr Rogers, summarising a victim impact statement, said Mr Littleton had been left ”anxious and scared” by the incident.
