Steven Taylor, 51, committed the act on himself outside Heronsbridge School in Bridgend
A man committed a sex act on himself outside a school for children with educational needs.
Steven Taylor, 51, was sentenced at Cardiff Crown Court on Tuesday after pleading guilty to committing an act outraging public decency.
He was seen outside Heronsbridge School in Bridgend at around 1.15pm on June 9 committing the vulgar act.
The location was also only 50 yards away from Brynteg School.
Prosecutor Michael Hammett said a woman in a car saw the act and reported what she had seen to the police.
Taylor was later arrested as he was boarding a bus.
He was interviewed and accepted being in the area at the time of the offence but told officers he was not exposing himself.
Defence barrister Ruth Smith said the offence was “heavily out of character” for Taylor, who she said was suffering from a number of “considerable stresses” at the time.
She said: “He has no excuse for his behaviour and does understand it himself.”
Ms Smith said he also found it difficult to find employment because of a number of tattoos on his face.
Taylor, of Llewellyn Street, Nantymoel, Bridgend, was given a suspended sentence of 24 weeks imprisonment.
He was also ordered to carry out a rehabilitation activity requirement and was made subject to an order prohibiting him from being within a 100 yards of an educational establishment.
