Coed y Morfa Woods in Prestatyn where people living nearby say they have been terrorised by yobs
More residents have come forward to say they are being “terrorised by teens” in Prestatyn with one woman claiming a gang tried to blind her puppy with laser pens.
North Wales Police, Denbighshire Council and the headteacher of Prestatyn High School have now instigated to clamp down on a youths who have left the community feeling “under siege.”
Yesterday, we reported how rampaging yobs have been on wrecking sprees and are trying to snatch dogs from their owners.
Since then, more locals have spoke out about their own ordeals in and around the Coed y Morfa woods area.
One woman wrote on social media: “It’s getting bad on Tower Gardens too - a gang of yobs setting the dunes on fire.
“On Halloween, I was confronted by a gang they where pointing laser pens at my 12 month old puppy deliberately trying to blind him.
"It’s getting out of hand my own children won’t go out of an evening unless they are going to a planned activity,”
Another said: “These kids are getting out of control.
“A few weeks ago while I was out walking my dog, five lads chased me shooting a pellet gun. “Shoot the rat,” they were shouting. They also shot few old people’s windows.”
Another added: “I won’t walk my dog in the evenings there anymore because of all of this.
“On Halloween there were around 20 of them on Tip Lane, sat upon the high wall backing on to someone’s garden.
“It is intimidating, also the amount of broken glass and rubbish is horrible and not to mention dangerous.”
Local councillor, Paul Penlington said he’s been inundated with complaints about incidents he described as “very aggressive and potentially dangerous.”
He has now formed an anti-social behaviour forum, the first meeting of which was last night.
Mr Penlington said: “Residents are being frightened and abused, some people have even been attacked and our community is being damaged.
“This is not an attempt to chastise young people, things are getting out of hand and something must be done before some serious harm happens.”
Last night’s meeting included police, members of Denbighshire Council and the new headteacher of Prestatyn High School.
Cllr Penlington added: “It was a very interesting discussion where we learned that most incidents of anti-social behaviour are down to one group of teenagers, in particular a small group of around six young people.
“They are surrounded by a larger group but they are the main instigators of problems.”
North Wales Police have confirmed they have received reports of antisocial behaviour in the woods and urged people to report such matters directly by calling 101.
Inspector Alwyn Williams said: “North Wales Police and specifically the local Safer Neighbourhood Team are committed to tackling antisocial behaviour and we will ensure robust action is taken against those who choose to cause disruption."
Local Sergeant Mark Jones said: “The Safer Neighbourhood Team have been concentrating their efforts into tackling this and have significantly increased high visibility patrols in the concern areas to reassure residents."
Vale of Clwyd AM, Ann Jones said: “These sorts of problems need a multi-agency response. The police do need more people to report any incident of anti-social behaviour.
“The more evidence the police can gather the better chance they have of convicting the perpetrators."
