Caernarfon,North Wales - Teenager locked up for six months for threatening to stab boy

A teenage boy who threatened to stab another boy just days after appearing in court on another matter, has been locked up for six months.
The 16-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared at Caernarfon Youth Court today.
The court heard the youth from the Caernarfon area was already the subject of a Youth Rehabilitation Order (YRO) for threatening behaviour when he was spotted arguing with a 14-year-old boy in Plas Llwyd Terrace in Bangor’s city centre on July 29.
A concerned member of the public called police after spotting the pair rowing.

The court heard the older teen had threatened to stab the younger boy.
Police arrived and spoke to the 14-year-old who did not want to make a statement.
Officers then spoke to the defendant after they found him on a nearby footpath.
He later admitted one count of possessing a bladed article while making threats.
Nia Lloyd, prosecuting, said the boy was arrested and later charged but no knife was found.
Announcing the court’s decision chairman Alwyn Lloyd Ellis, said they gave him credit for the guilty plea but a period of detention was inevitable.
“You’ve had plenty of opportunities to change your ways and the Youth Justice Team have tried to help you as much as they can.
“But this was a serious offence, it occurred in public, in the middle of the afternoon and was frightening.
“It happened while you were on a Youth Rehabilitation Order which had been imposed just a few days earlier.
“It is not a matter of if we send you to detention but for how long,” said Mr Ellis.
The teenager showed no emotion as he was led from the court by security guards to begin his sentence.
Today the YRO was revoked and he was handed a four-month detention order to be served concurrently with his six-month sentence.
Earlier Carys Parry, defending, told the court the boy had put himself in a position where detention was the only option.
“He has deep-seated emotional problems but has not co-operated with the Youth Justice Service.

“Had he done so I may be able to be in a position to try and persuade the court to deal with the offence in a way other than detention,” she said.
