Laurie Atherton with Red, who was distressed after fireworks were set off into his field
He was wearing a rug and it could have caught fire if the fireworks had landed on him
A horse was left terrified on Bonfire Night after at least nine rockets were set off in his field.
The 15-year-old Arab, called Red, was pacing up and down hysterically when his owner went to check on him late on Saturday night.
Laurie Atherton, 23, from Bridgend , said: "He's my mum's horse and I went to the field to check he was ok because I knew he would feel stressed if he had heard fireworks.
"But when I got there I saw a line of rockets had been put in the ground just in front of the gate and they were all pointing in the direction of his field, not away from the field."
Red shares the field with a 26-year-old pony and it can only be accessed via another field which has a padlocked gate.
All the rockets and fireworks had landed in the horses' field and they were both in a distressed state when Laurie arrived.
"The worst thing is that Red was wearing a rug and if the rocket had landed on him it could have set the rug on fire," she added. "It could have ended tragically and I'm really upset someone has gone into the field and done this.
"He was in an awful state and was pacing up and down. He would come near me but then shoot off because he was scared.
"I just can't understand why anyone would do this."
Laurie's mother, Shelley Morgan Ford, who owns Red, was injured during a horse riding accident in January this year and has been left partially paralysed from the accident.
Laurie said her mum - who has owned Red for more than 10 years - was very upset when she found out what had happened but due to her injuries has not been able to visit the field.
"I stayed there with the horses until they had calmed down," Laurie explained. "But now we are afraid of it happening again. There might still be fireworks going off for a few days and we don't know how to keep them more safe.
"We would never have left them there if we had known it was going to happen but that is their field and nobody should have gone over the gate to set the rockets off."
