TWO 15-year-olds were approached in a town centre by a drunken man who produced a piece of broken glass from a bag.
The boys were understandably terrified, Flintshire Magistrates Court at Mold was told yesterday.
Carl Newman, 32, of no fixed address, admitted a public order offence in Church Street in Flint on February 13.
He also admitted breaching his Anti-social Behaviour Order (ASBO)by being drunk in a public place, criminal damage and assault.
Newman, who appeared in court from custody, was jailed for 26 weeks.
District judge Gwyn Jones told Newman the ASBO had been imposed in the crown court for an assault and the latest offence was repeat behaviour.
“While in drink you approached two young men making their way through Flint. You terrified them,” he said.
“They did not know how much force you were going to subject them to.”
He had made threats with a weapon, a piece of broken glass.
The offences occurred a short time after his release from prison.
Prosecutor Rhian Jackson told how the defendant was seen on CCTV breaking a wing mirror on a car in Sydney Street.
He was arrested and she said that earlier two boys walking in Church Street came across the defendant.
Newman walked towards them, dropped a carrier bag and produced from it a broken piece of glass.
He said to one of the boys “you were giving me shit the other day.”
Newman swung for him and tried to punch him to the face with a bandaged hand which was bleeding.
The boy ducked to avoid the blow and the defendant then started to throw glass around.
At one stage he said “I will put that to their throat” although it was not clear who that was directed at.
He asked for money and asked for a jacket and the boy did not know what to do because the defendant was so aggressive.
The other boy stood between them and agreed to telephone the man a taxi but the defendant tried to grab the phone.
Eventually they were able to leave.
The second youth told how the defendant wanted his T-shirt and his coat and said he wanted to wrap his bleeding hand with them.
Arrested and interviewed, Newman said he had drunk half a bottle of vodka and did not dispute what had happened.
Gary Harvey, defending, said Newman did not remember a great deal. He knew he could be obnoxious after drinking.
That day he had taken alcohol combined with medication for mental health problems.
