Judge slams "thuggish behaviour" of Daniel Hazeldine, 30, from Maesgeirchen in Bangor

A man who drove a car at speed at a terrified pregnant woman and threatened to kill her aunt was jailed for three years and two months.
Daniel Terence Hazeldine from Maesgeirchen, Bangor had denied wounding, witness intimidation and assault in a two-day trial at Caernarfon Crown Court.
The 30-year-old had admitted being drunk and throwing a vodka bottle - smashing a bedroom window at the home of Noah and Charlene Creed - at Ffordd y Castell, Maesgeirchen in the early hours of Sunday, October 25 last year, claiming he’d gone to the house to buy drugs.
Hazeldine also admitted returning to the Creed’s home around 9.30am the same day and throwing a breeze block he’d picked up from a nearby house and smashing their living room window.
Today a jury found him guilty of intimidating Mrs Creed and of assaulting Mr Creed’s aunt, Valerie James, two days later on December 22.
He was found not guilty of wounding Mr Creed and not guilty of threatening Mr Creed to drop charges on December 20.
James Coutts, prosecuting, said after the Creeds windows were smashed last October Hazeldine and Mr Creed fought with Hazeldine hitting Mr Creed on his head with a shoveland a child’s scooter.
During police interviews he accepted causing criminal damage but insisted he acted in self-defence.
He was bailed, but on December 22, Hazeldine saw Mr Creed’s wife Charlene enter a nearby house to visit her husband’s aunt, Valerie James.
Hazeldine, of Ffordd Tan y Bryn, Maesgeirchen, then drove his car at her crashing through a fence and into the Mrs James garden, shouting: “You are all grasses.”

'Clearly terrifying'

The court heard he got out of his car and put his hands around Valerie James’ neck and squeezed her throat, saying he knew someone who could kill her.
Defence barrister Dafydd Roberts said Hazeldine understood that he must be punished.
Sentencing Hazeldine to a total of 38 months custody, His Honour Judge Rhys Rowlands said: “Why you went there I don’t know, but you threw a vodka bottle at a window where Mrs Creed and her young child were sleeping.
"You were throwing your weight around. Quite who you think you are in Maesgeirchen I don’t know.
"People who seek to interfere with justice and intimidate witnesses get lengthy sentences.”
The judge said the the assault on Mrs James and the intimidation of a pregnant Mrs Creed had been “clearly terrifying” for the victims.
As well as jailing Hazeldine, the judge issued a 10-year restraining order not to go within five metres of the Creed’s and not to post anything on social media about them or their families.
Insp Brian Kearney said: “We welcome the sentence today handed down to Daniel Hazeldine.
"His repeated thuggish behaviour was disgraceful, and until today, he clearly believed he was above the law.
"We are very grateful to the victims and witnesses in this case for having the courage to come forward, thereby making our community and North Wales a safer place.”
