THIEVES took life-saving equipment during a series of raids at Langland Bay last night.
Hand-held radios, training helmets, binoculars and other items were stolen when the bay's RNLI lifeguard unit was broken into. Fourteen beach huts and a parking meter were also targeted.
Lifeguards returned to the beach this morning to set up the kit but found that the padlock had been cut off and someone had broken-in overnight.
Swansea Council, which owns the beach huts, says the break-ins were "hugely disappointing".
RNLI South Wales lifeguard manager Jacob Davies said: "Last night the RNLI Lifeguard Unit was broken into at Langland Bay, Swansea. Four hand-held radios, training helmets, binoculars and other equipment were stolen during the break-in overnight.
It has not affected patrols, and lifeguards continue to provide safety advice and assistance as normal, Mr Davies added.

The parking meter is described as being "extensively vandalised".
A spokesman for Swansea Council said: "It's hugely disappointing that burglars have targeted 14 of the 80 Langland Bay beach huts. They're an iconic feature of a Blue Flag winning attraction that are enjoyed by hundreds of people of all ages every year.
"We alerted the police as soon as we made aware of the break-ins and have arranged for staff from our corporate building and property services team to carry out repairs and make the targeted huts secure. All relevant beach hut leaseholders and owners are also being contacted.
The spokesman added: "A parking meter was quite extensively vandalised."
"It will have to be replaced at a cost of several thousand pounds. We are not able to confirm if any money was taken, as it may have been collected."
"We'd urge anyone who has information on who may be responsible to contact South Wales Police."
A South Wales Police spokesman said: "We have taken reports of several beach huts and the lifeguard station at Langland being broken into on Tuesday night. Local officers and crime scene investigators have attended the area today.
"An investigation is continuing and we appeal to anyone who saw any suspicious activity in this area either on Tuesday night or the early hours of Wednesday morning to contact us. Specialist equipment from the lifeguard station was stolen and we ask anyone who has any information about this property to come forward."
Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 quoting occurrence number 1600179500.
