Rhondda Cynon Taf,South Wales - Discovery of man's body in flat leads to police investigation

A body was found in a flat in Llys Tylcha Fawr, Tonyrefail

Local people feared the body may have been at the property for some time before being discovered

An investigation has been launched after the body of a man was discovered at a block of flats.
Police have said there was no “apparent” suspicious circumstances, but local people feared the body may have been at the property for some time before being discovered.
He was named locally as Alan Jones, who was in his 40s.
South Wales Police said the man’s body was discovered at around 4pm at Llys Tylcha Fawr, Tonyrefail on Wednesday.
A spokeswoman for South Wales Police said: “Enquiries are ongoing, however there are no apparent suspicious circumstances and the death is currently being treated as unexplained.
“Formal identification has yet to be completed and the coroner has been informed.”
Police would not speculate on how long the body had been at the property.
Gwyn Phillips, from Hafod Housing Association, said Mr Jones had lived in the flat since June. He said the association was alerted by an anxious neighbour on Wednesday raising concerns about Mr Jones.
The police were called and arrived at the same time as a housing officer, when Mr Jones’ body was discovered.
Mr Philips said they are trying to establish the last person who had direct contact with Mr Jones by speaking to neighbours and checking with contractors.
They are offering support to the neighbours.
Mr Phillips said: “It’s a tragedy for Mr Jones, his family and the neighbours.”
