A police probe has been launched into irregularities in school funding in Conwy, triggering the resignation of an employee.
An investigation by Conwy Council auditors revealed financial irregularities in the education department.
A employee of the authority has resigned and information has been passed onto North Wales Police.
They are now investigating an “alleged theft”.
The irregularity came to light as part of 10 special investigations carried out by Conwy Council’s internal auditors.
According to a report to the authority’s audit and governance committee 34 days were spent on the internal probe.
The management then issued an audit report with eight recommendations.
The investigation could be mentioned at a meeting of Conwy’s audit and governance committee on Monday.
A spokeswoman for Conwy Council declined to comment on the scope of the investigation or the school or schools involved in the financial irregularity.
A spokeswoman for North Wales Police said: “There’s an ongoing investigation into an alleged theft at a school in Conwy.”
