Nicholas Weaver admitted assaulting ex-partner Patricia Oldfield but denied intending to burn her property down
A pensioner has admitted setting fire to his ex-partner’s house.
Nicholas Weaver also owned up to assaulting Patricia Oldfield and a spree of vandalism which sae him damage a window, ornaments and a BT telephone box near Corwen on March 11.
The 68-year-old was told that his case would be adjourned for a pre-sentence report and a report on the counselling that he had since received.
Judge Niclas Parry said that he would be given significant credit for his pleas but warned him to prepare himself for a custodial sentence.
The court heard that Weaver was a man of good character who had lost his temper and set the house on fire after his partner had left the property.
Fire-fighters fought for more than two hours to put out the blaze at Blaen y Cwm, Llandrillo near Corwen which left two downstairs rooms completely gutted.
He denied threatening to kill his former partner, arson with intent to destroy property and being reckless as to whether life would be endangered.
But his denial was accepted when he admitted the alternative charge of reckless arson.
The threat to kill and to destroy his ex-partner’s car were allowed to lay on file.
Weaver, of Lime Grove, Elton, Chester, was remanded in custody until sentencing.
