Transport police released CCTV  images of two men they want to speak to in connection with the assault on two other men

Two Asian men were left severely shaken and fearing for their safety after a 20-minute ordeal on Saturday night involving a gang of three.

British Transport Police (BTP) today appealed for anyone with information or witnesses to come forward to help with the investigation.

PC Harry Thompson said: “Two friends were waiting at the station to catch the Chester train when they were approached by a group of three men.

“They started asking about their religious beliefs before the conversation turned aggressive, resulting in both men being threatened and later assaulted."

PC Thompson continued: “This was a prolonged and incredibly intimidating incident, lasting almost 20 minutes, which left both victims severely shaken.

“Indeed, one of them is so traumatised they’ve been too scared to make a statement about what happened.

“Fortunately, this type of incident is rare on the rail network.

“But this is a very serious offence and it is vital that we trace the people responsible.”

BTP officers said the incident happened at around 9.50pm.

Both men are described as white and were wearing army-style jackets.

Officers would also like to talk to this man following the racial attack at Flint railway station

One of the men had blond hair which was shaved on the back and sides, while the other had dark brown hair which was also shaved on the back and sides.

PC Thompson added: “We would like to speak to these people as a matter of urgency as I believe they may both be in a position to assist us with our ongoing enquiries.

“We take all reports of hate crimes extremely seriously and victims should know they can come to us in complete confidence, safe in the knowledge they will be taken seriously and treated with respect.”
