Blaenau Ffestiniog,North Wales - Paedophile denies using dating website to prey on single mums

Retired postmaster Philip Nigel Hewitt, 70, was convicted of possessing and distributing indecent images of children in January

Police are investigating an online dating profile appearing to show a North Wales paedophile looking to find single mums.
Philip Nigel Hewitt, 70, denies creating the profile, which appeared on PlentyMoreFish.com.
When approached by the Daily Post at his home in Blaenau Ffestiniog , he claimed someone else was behind the profile.
A mother in Tanygrisiau, where author Hewitt lives, reported the profile to website operators and it has now been taken down.
The profile said: “I love the quiet life; walking in the countryside, watching old films on DVD in the evenings, gardening, looking after other people.

“My ex-wife and two young sons live locally, but I do not see them much.
“I am looking for a single mum who needs love and support.”
Hewitt lives at Y Llythyrdy about 20 yards from Ysgol Tanygrisiau.
He told the Daily Post: “It’s not true. I’ve just had the police here in fact about that.
“I am registered with the police as a sex offender.
“The police are looking into whoever lifted the photo of me and put text to it and they’ll be in trouble.
“I’ve never heard of it (the profile), someone has put it there. It wasn’t me, someone else must have put it there.
“If you’re an investigative journalist, it’s no good talking to me about this.
“You’ll have to find out who put it there and talk to them about this.
“I’ve never heard of this website and whoever put that on the web is going to be receiving a visit from somebody.”
In December last year Hewitt admitted to possessing 878 still images of children and three charges of distributing indecent images.
The offences were dated between 2008 and November of 2014.

Investigation

peaceful protest was held by parents and concerned councillors days later, who said they were uncomfortable with Hewitt living so close to a primary school where 70 children attend.
The pensioner was given a suspended sentence in January and allowed to continue living roughly 20 yards from Ysgol Tanygrisiau.
A spokesman for North Wales Police said: “Police are aware and our enquiries are ongoing to establish if any offences have been committed.”
Venntro, who handle media enquiries for PlentyMoreFish, have been approached to comment.
A Ministry of Justice spokesman said: “Sex offenders given community sentences are thoroughly risk assessed, monitored and supervised.
“Failure to comply with a requirement imposed under an order is an offence can lead to an offender being brought back before the courts for additional punishment.”
