South Wales Police is investigating "a number of suspicious incidents" in the city, amid reports of a mum and child being approached by a "man in a shiny black Range Rover".
Police say that, since January 26, five incidents have been reported of a man acting suspiciously.
They have all been in the Pentwyn and Pontprennau areas of Cardiff.
Police revealed the incidents after a school warned parents of a mother and child being approached by a man in a Range Rover outside Pontprennau Primary School.
The school posted a message on its Facebook page warning parents of the incident.
It warned parents to be vigilant after claims a man in "a shiny black Range Rover tried to entice a child and his mother into his car".
It reportedly happened as they walked to school in Cardiff on Monday.
The man allegedly asked the boy and his mother if they wanted to get in the car with him.
But when the mother refused he drove off.
The incident happened at around 12.30pm as the pair were walking to the nursery at the school and the car was on Heol Pontprennau near the zebra crossing.
Headteacher Lizzie Dykes said: “Following concerns being raised by a parent at the school, we called the 101 number to report the incident.
"The school has advised parents to be on the lookout and to remain vigilant.”
Police said three of the incidents have been in Pentwyn - Pentwyn Drive, Pentwyn Road, and Glyn Coed Road - and two in Pontprennau - Lascelles Drive and Heol Pontprennau.
They said the most recent report was of a woman approached in Heol Pontprennau at around 12.30pm by a man driving a black Range Rover.
A spokesewoman said: "He offered her and her young child a lift, she declined and he drove off."
Inspector Paul Arkontopoulos, who is based at Llanedeyrn Police Station, said: “There are some similarities in the description of the man and a vehicle but there are also some differences too so at this stage we cannot be certain it is the same man.
“Enquiries are continuing into these incidents and neighbourhood officers have increased patrols near schools, at the start and end of the school day, to help reassure the local community.
“As always, we would ask people to be vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour to us by calling 101 or 999 in an emergency.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact South Wales Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 quoting occurrence number 1600044344.
