A MAN who was caught red-handed trying to smash his way into a Swansea doctor's surgery went on to commit three burglaries just days later after being released on bail, a court has heard.
Aled Evans was caught with a wrench at the Greenhill Medical Centre in Dyfatty after police received calls from neighbours about noises coming from the building at around 3.30am.
Swansea Crown Court heard that police arrived on the scene within minutes and found the building in darkness. As the officers walked around the centre, their torches picked up two people, who ran off.
Carina Hughes, prosecuting, said police chased and caught Evans, but the second person — a woman — got away.
Evans named the woman and said the break-in had been her idea — but she was later traced by police and no action was taken against her.
The court heard a window in a consulting room at the surgery had been smashed, but entry had not been gained.
Evans, of Rhondda Street, Mount Pleasant, had previously pleaded guilty to attempted burglary on December 10 when he appeared in the dock.
The court heard that just three days after the surgery incident, while Evans was on police bail following his early hours arrest, he burgled three houses — one on the street where he lived, one on Alexandra Terrace in Brynmill and one in Rhyddings Terrace in Brynmill.
During the Alexandra Terrace break-in he assaulted the householder after he had chased him from the property, and in the Rhyddings Terrace incident he took the owner's car keys and made off in the vehicle.
Evans is currently serving a 20-month sentence for the December 13 offences, and judge Huw Davies imposed an 18-week sentence for the surgery offence to run concurrently.
