A LLANELLI man who raped a woman after becoming Facebook friends with her has been sentenced to six years in prison.
Dean Cresdee's victim awoke to find him having sex with her, without her consent, after the pair fell asleep watching a film at her home in September 2013.
The two, who had become friendly on Facebook, had spent the day together as friends.
Cresdee, of Parc Gitto, denied rape but was found guilty by a jury at Swansea Crown Court. He was jailed for six years by a judge on Thursday.
Forensic examination of his mobile phone revealed that in the weeks preceding the offence, 35-year-old Cresdee had been conducting internet searches relating to 'sleeping sex tapes' and 'sex with passed out women'.
Officers from Llanelli CID with specialist support from Dyfed-Powys Police Digital Communications and Cybercrime Unit (DCCU) carried out the investigation.
Detective Constable Ciaran Ryan said: "We welcome the sentence Cresdee has received for this despicable crime, which will have a lifelong impact on the victim. Bringing this dangerous man to justice will help prevent further harm to other women.
"The victim of this incident has been supported by specially trained officers and has shown great courage in coming forward to report this incident and working with us to bring the case to court, where justice has been served."
