A university student was raped in freshers' week by a sex predator who targeted single drunk women, a court heard.
Remus Hamza, aged 40, is alleged to have attacked the 20-year-old close to Cardiff University as she walked home from a night out.
A court heard that Hamza "preyed on" the woman as she went through an underpass in the early hours of the morning.
He then allegedly pulled her behind a bush and raped her.
But he was caught when a passerby saw the alleged attack and took a picture on his phone.
Prosecutor Claire Pickthall said the student had lost her friends during the night and was so drunk "she could not have consented to sex".
She said: "Hamza was preying on single females and the victim was unfortunate to stumble into his path.
"The fact she was so intoxicated it would've been apparent she was in no condition to consent.
"Having sex with her in that state means it is clear she was raped."
The student said she remembered drinking two glasses of rosé wine, two pints of cider and "probably cocktails" during a bar crawl, before going to the city's Prysm nightclub.
But admitted she had no further memory of her night out before the alleged rape near the National Museum of Wales.
From behind a screen she told Newport Crown Court: "I had quite a lot to drink. I don't remember how much.
"We went to Prysm but I can't remember being in there."
Miss Pickthall, said that passerby Lee Neil noticed the woman "trying to get away" as they entered bushes.
She said: "He found the defendant on top of her laying on the ground.
"He took out his phone and took a photo. The flash went off, then the defendant got up and ran off."
The jury were shown copies of the photo taken from close range which showed Hamza on top of the woman among bushes.
Mr Neil told Newport Crown Court after the girl got up she started "acting strange" and "laughing."
He added: "I haven't got a clue why I took the photo. I can only think I was trying to do good."
Mr Neil called the police, but the "confused" girl claimed it was him who had raped her, and he was taken into custody only to be released soon after.
Hamza's DNA was found on the girl, and he was arrested on September 24.
He admits having sex with the girl, but claims it was consensual.
He told officers in an interview: "I went for a walk around midnight. I saw the girl was alone and thought she was single.
"I grabbed her arse, and she laughed and then we kissed.
"We went into a bush and then had sex."
Hamza, who is Romanian, of Riverside, Cardiff denies rape.
The trial, at Newport Crown Court, continues.
