A MAN who called police and told them he was "The Phantom" and was going to kill his mother's ex-partner before walking into a busy doctors' surgery with five knives has avoided jail.
Robert Arundel told officers they had 135 seconds to save the man's life before he sought vengeance on him — adding that "death will prevail".
However, Arundel didn't go the man's house — instead he went to his doctor's surgery and its adjoining pharmacy where the practice manager managed to calm him down until police arrived.
Arundel, of Gower View Road, Penyrheol, Gorseinon, had previously pleaded guilty to possessing bladed articles in a public place when he appeared in the dock of Swansea Crown Court for sentencing.

Ian Ibrahim, prosecuting, said it was on the afternoon of November 10 last year that the 25-year-old called police and told them he was The Phantom and made threats to kill, adding that they had "exactly 135 seconds to save the man's life" and it would be "on their heads" if he was killed.
Police raced to his house but he was not there — instead he had gone to his GP's practice on Cecil Road in Gorseinon, armed with five kitchen knives.
The court heard he was in an "agitated" state and demanding to see his GP, and at one stage got a knife out of his pocket — however the practice manager at the surgery managed to calm him down and arranged for the surgery to be evacuated.
Arundel was leaving the building via a rear exit when police arrived.
When them defendant was searched he was found to be in possession of five kitchen knives of various sizes.
The court was told Arundel was a long-term abuser of alcohol, and on the day in question had drunk a large quantity and had no memory of events.
The defendant was also described as having an "emotionally disturbed personality disorder".
Judge Huw Davies QC said Arundel had behaved in an "outrageous fashion", and a message needed to be sent out that people taking knives into a public place was "intolerable".
The judge also praised the GP practice manager who had calmed Arundel down, describing her as a "a resourceful lady who made a remarkable effort at coping in a difficult situation".
Arundel was given a 10 month prison sentence suspended for two years, and was made the subject of a rehabilitation programme and an alcohol requirement.
