DRUGS paraphernalia discarded in public toilets could be picked up by children, a concerned resident has warned.
Gavin Rodda found five empty methadone bottles at King Street bus station toilets in Wrexham on Tuesday morning.
Mr Rodda, who lives in Acton, says the public conveniences in the station are turning into a gathering place for addicts in the town.
He said: “For Wrexham, the bus station is the gateway for all the people coming in and out of the town. With those being the only toilets there, it’s what the people coming here are seeing and it’s not a good image for Wrexham.”
Mr Rodda, 34, said it had been a problem for several years but it had worsened in the last couple of months.
He is calling on Wrexham Council to resolve the issue.
He said: “First thing in the morning when the toilet opens, the alcoholics and the drug addicts come out of the hostels and congregate there.”
Mr Rodda added that a group of about 20 people gather at the toilets for a couple of hours each morning.
He described how empty beer cans and bottles of vodka had been found in the toilets, as well as burnt foil and other items linked to drug taking.
“We’ve got children going in an out of there and it’s something that they shouldn’t be seeing.”
The bus station toilets open at 6am on weekdays, but Mr Rodda said that security staff did not start until 9.30am.
Cllr Hugh Jones, lead member for communities and partnerships, said: “The bus station in King Street does have a full-time cleaner and security guard.
“However, they cannot be everywhere at all times of the day and unfortunately these type of incidents do occur.
“They are not acceptable and I encourage anyone who finds such evidence of drugs paraphernalia to report it on 01978 292000.”
