A CAFE owner spoke of her anger after a customer swiped hard-earned tips from the counter.
Lisa Williams, who owns and runs Two The Square in Conwy with her husband Mark, said at about 4.30pm on Friday, February 5, a member of her staff served a man who paid for a coffee and helped himself to a handful of tips from a jar on the counter as she turned to make it.
Mrs Williams said the man then asked for his money back and she believes CCTV footage shows him pocketing the £10 note he had been given in the change so he could claim he had been overcharged, before being given a full refund.
She said: "If you watch the video, I think he must have had five pounds in his pocket, because he got that out and showed it to her to say he'd been charged too much, and I think he must have put the ten pounds up his sleeve.
"We didn't know about the ten pounds until after - we thought he'd just taken the tips, which is bad enough, but I sent it to my sister and she saw it. It's infuriating.
"I would rather he came in and had a meal and didn't pay than steal the tips, which the girls work so hard for and the customers are generous to give. He wasn't a very nice character.
"I wasn't sharing it to catch him, it's more to raise awareness of him targeting small businesses.
"We've learned the hard way, leaving the tips out - we won't be doing it again."
A spokesperson for North Wales Police confirmed a call was received just after 9.30am on Saturday, February 6, reporting money had been stolen from a tip jar just after 4.30pm on Friday, February 5.
The spokesperson added the unknown male offender, who had entered the premises as a customer, is described as possibly Asian, aged about 35, of medium build with black hair.
Anyone who may have information about the incident can call police on 101 quoting crime reference number RC160 18076 or call the Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 555 111.
