A man on a family visit from Australia fought back tears in the dock when he was accused of wounding an 18 year-old in a pub on Boxing Day.
Scott Williams, 27, who has dual nationality, was granted bail at a special weekend court at Llandudno on condition he gives up his Australian and expired British passport.
Nia Lloyd, prosecuting, said that Jake Pickstock fell downstairs after allegedly being punched by Williams at the Bron Eryri pub in Penmaenmawr on December 26.
Mr Pickstock is currently in hospital at Stoke on Trent but was reported to be improving from back injuries.
Williams has been charged with wounding with intent and the case is being sent to the crown court.
Andrew Hutchinson, defending, said Williams would plead guilty to a lesser charge of wounding Mr Pickstock, the landlady’s son, without intent.
He said Williams had been arrested in Kent, where he was staying with other relatives.
Magistrates granted Williams conditional bail, which included the passports being surrendered, and an electronically tagged curfew at a relative’s home at Penketh, Warrington.
But Mr Hutchinson gave the court notice to appeal the decision and Williams will now appear at Caernarfon crown court this week for a further bail application hearing.
Mr Hutchinson said his client had been due to fly back to Sydney on January 14.
